Doctor check up

We took Anna Beth for her weight check today! Matt guessed she was up to 6.3 lbs and i went way out there and guessed 6.4. We were both shocked when she was 6.11!!!! The doctor said she only expected her to gain a full pound in a month. She was just a few ounces short of her monthly expected gain. I was so happy it brought tears to my eyes. She has been such a great baby so far. She sleeps and eats and is staying awake a little more each day. We don't go back to the doctor until she is one month old. I can let her sleep 4-5 hours at night now. I had been waking her every 3 hours to eat.

James has been such a great big brother. He looks for her pacifier whenever she cries and kisses her on the head quite a bit. When he leaves he always says, "bye, bye Bebe." James is also talking up a storm! It seems like overnight a switch went off in his head and he stated talking all the time. They are building a house across the street so he looks out the window at all the trucks and different machinery coming and going. He even wants the baby to come look and calls her over to see what he is looking at. So far, things are going great with James an his baby sister!

Anna Beth is enjoying her chair in her new room. Her 5th day of life has been great. She had her newborn photos this morning. We got James to cooperate on a couple. Then we had her first doctor check up this afternoon. She is almost back to her birth weight and the doctor wants me to just breastfeed her for now. If I don't have enough milk, we can supplement. That doesn't seem like an issue right now. She is only in the 6% for weight right now. The doctor is not worried about it and said she may catch up or just be a smaller girl. She is hardly ever awake and basically just eats and sleeps. She is still not a fan of the diaper change.
James is doing really well. He always asks for the baby. He gives her lots of kisses! Overall this has been a great experience. We are so very happy to have beth here for close to a week to help out. It will be a lifesaver. James adores her so he definitely shouldn't feel left out this week!

Home from the hospital

We all made it home today from the hospital! What a blessing it has been to have everyone under the same roof. John and Linda brought James to the hospital this morning so he could be with us to bring Anna Beth home. My mom met us here this afternoon to stay the night and help us get situated. We have Beth flying in tomorrow to stay almost a week with us so we will have lots of help for a while. We are so thankful for everyone and everything they have helped us with so far. James had a blast in Macon with his 4 cousins and would love to be back there anyway. Natalie and Todd kept him over the weekend while we were in the hospital.
James did really well adjusting today with his baby sister home. He has given her lots of kisses on her head and been really gentle with her. He hasn't wanted to help change her diaper yet. That might be wishful thinking.
Tomorrow, we have newborn pictures at 9:30 in Kennesaw. It should be interesting getting us ready by then and being there on time. After that, Beth gets in a little after 6 so James is patiently awaiting her arrival. We will have another day as a family offer under our belt. Matt returns to work on Thursday.

Halloween 2011

James is spending Halloween with Grammy and Poppy in Duluth being a giraffe. Anna Beth is with us in the hospital on her first Halloween. She had a pumpkin costume and a Halloween sleeper. After changing her outfit a couple of times, she was over it and went to sleep!

She is out of the NICU

Anna Beth got released from the NICU Sunday morning once her doctor came in and looked at her evaluation. Once they called to tell us the great news, I got everything ready to finally spend time with her. That included my first shower since my surgery. I had gotten a little behind on my pain medicine Saturday night so I made sure to grt caught up today.
She spent most of the day sleeping and breastfeeding. The lactation consultant spent some time with us and said she was doing great for being 2 days old and having been bottle-fed so much. I realize it will be an uphill battle but on the positive side, she will be able to take a Bottle. James never wanted to take a bottle.

Another big event of the day was having James to come visit. The smile on his face when he met his sister was the sweetest smile I have ever seen. he was so proud and excited!
Tonight, Anna Beth has wanted to bs held and not sleep in her bassinet. Matt let me sleep for an hour and now it is my shift to hold her! Life with a newborn has begun and I couldn't be happier.

Good morning! Anna Beth had a great night. She was really happy Georgia won but sad about the Clemson game. We came to the nicu for her 11:30 PM feeding and Matt came back at 5:30 to drop some milk off.
The nurse called at 7:30 to let us know she was hungry and to come feed her.
Just waiting on the doctor this morning to hopefully give us some good news.
By the way, she weighed in at a whopping 5.7lbs last night!

Our Family

Our precious baby girl is staying in the NICU again tonight where she is receiving the best care. The neonatologist will be back sometime tomorrow to reevaluate her and we might get a chance to have her back with us. She is doing really well and had her feeding tube and IV removed. She has also moved to a regular bassinet and no longer a heated bed. I have had a chance to give her 2 bottles and breastfeed her today. She is a great bottle taker and breastfeeder already.

I just spoke with her nurse in the NICU and she has taken her two bottles at 11:30 and 2:30 really well. 28ccs and 30ccs. Her minimum she was to take was 25cc's so we are making progress!! she has also been breathing well with Megan. I may have to wake Matt up soon and see if he can wheel to go see her. I get my epidural out tomorrow so it will make it easier to move around. They said I could even walk to the Nicu by Sunday if she is still there. The neonatologist will be making rounds in the morning so we are praying for more positive news. In the meantime, I am trying to sleep but just can't seem to right now. Maybe when we have our baby girl with us, I will be able to! They brought me a breast pump so I have been pumping every 3 hours to stimulate my milk. Hoping one day she might get to breastfeed. It is birthday time!

Anna Beth was born at 10:44am. She weighed 6lbs 1oz and is 19 1/2" long Quite the striking resemblance to James. She's I'm the transitional nursery now and we hope to be able to be with her again shortly.

There is something surreal about a scheduled C. Your life is about to change again and when you get to the hospital it's like going for a routine check up at the doctor.

School Has Started

James started school last week and has really enjoyed it. Since he went last year, he was very comfortable being dropped off and had a great day. When I picked him up the teacher said he was bringing the other kids toys to try and get them to quit crying. He didn't understand why they were so sad. We are so proud of him and know what a special little boy we have.

Beach Trip to Gulf Shores, AL

We took an end of summer vacation the second week of August to Gulf Shores, AL. It was the longest vacation Matt and I had been on since our honeymoon in 2007. We had a great time and it was actually relaxing. We went with two other families that Matt had known since high school. He enjoyed catching up with his old friends and James and I enjoyed getting to know them better. The slide show is lengthy but it shows what we did all week long. We headed to the park this past Saturday and spent some time playing on the playground. It is amazing how fast he is growing up! It seems like a month ago this slide was too big for him and now it is all he wants to do.

We had to go to the doctor because James has been up coughing for 3 nights. We got sone steroids and have to do breathing treatments until it clears up. Hoping for some sleep in the nights ahead.
James was such a big boy and walked to the back with the nurse by himself. He is sitting in the room patiently waiting on Dr. Thomas to come. We go back today for his recheck so I hope his wheezing is gone. We have to be well since we are headed to the beach for the Fourth of July!

Father's Day Weekend

We had a wonderful Father's Day Weekend! Saturday we went to the pool and spent the day in the water with the Mulderick's and Patton's. James used some of his skills learned during swimming lessons and wowed us all. On Sunday we started the day by opening Father's Day gifts for Dada. James helped open them. Dad got a new t-shirt, a monogrammed tervis tumbler and some framed artwork from James. We then headed out to breakfast at J. Christopher's. Our next stop was the Atlanta Zoo. James was too funny when the elephant started walking towards us and pretty much climbed up Dada to protect him. He was holding on for dear life as the elephant approached. He also enjoyed the gorillas, tigers and giraffes. We then went to the highlight of his day, the Petting Zoo. Since James calls all animals "dogs" we was in heaven getting to pet all of them. He even climbed up on the table with one of them. The attendant said it was okay so we let him stay up there and pet the "dog" aka a goat. It was getting pretty hot by noon so we headed home for lunch and nap time. Later in the afternoon, the Stechmesser's came over for Father's Day dinner. Jame and Lilly enjoyed some pool time in the backyard. They had a great time and had to be forced out of the water to come in for dinner. We had a nice meal and then it was time for bed! James has such a wonderful Daddy and adores his every move. Matt, James and I also want to wish Granddaddy (Charlie), Pop (Bill) and Poppy (John) a wonderful Father's Day! We hope to see all of you soon!

During March we traveled to Minnesota for Ryan and Jess's wedding. It never got above freezing the whole time we were there. We had a great time despite the frigid temperatures. We went to the Mall of America while we were there and James rode the train several times in the indoor amusement park. We somehow forgot the camera so all we have are camera phone photos that we will post once we figure out how to download them from the iPhone.

James attended his buddy James Mulderick's first birthday and jumped in an inflatable jumpy for the first time. He really enjoyed that. Lindsay Patton sent us some pictures of the day!

Baby Sery #2 is a Girl

It has been quite a few months since the blog has been updated. We have had lots going on that we need to report!

We are expecting a baby girl this fall. The official due date is November 3rd but I will have her late October with a planned c-section. So James and his baby sister will just be over 2 years a part.

Below are a few pictures of the baby. The told us at 13 weeks that it was a 90% chance we were having a girl and then confirmed at 17 weeks that she is definitely a girl. I am still a little shocked since I thought we would have all boys. We are both so excited!

First Haircut

We finally decided to get James a haircut. I just loved the curls in the back so we kept putting it off. He is having his picture made next week in Macon so we thought we would go ahead and get it done. I took lots of pictures of his hair before so he would know that I did let him have long hair at a point in his life.

We went to Crewcut and Pigtails and got the First Haircut Package. It was worth the extra money - I guess? He did really well with the whole thing. They put him in the car with a steering wheel and then offered him animal crackers to keep him still and busy. He sat there the whole time eating and driving away. I brought the camera and snapped a couple of pictures. I was really pleased how it turned out. His curls are still there too! Especially when his hair is wet.

Yesterday I was talking with two of my closest friends about becoming a mom for the first time. We were talking about all the things no one tells you and you have no idea what is about to happen until it is here. What a blessing motherhood is but what a huge change in your life. I was reading a friend of a friends blog tonight and saw this video and thought I would share with all my new mommy friends. I thought it was great!

James is getting better everyday with using a spoon. He likes to feed himself with the spoon the first part of the meal and then use his hands or have you do it. Eating yogurt with your hands is really messy!

Snowpocalypse 2011 in Atlanta

The snow was fun! I'll leave it at that. Being trapped in a house with an 80 pound dog, a 15 month old child, and three adults can be a lot of fun (at first) but get to be like the movie Groundhog Day really fast. Good thing we knew it might be bad and went out and got Scrabble. It was played at least ten times. At least! James enjoyed everyone here all the time! It was really funny watching us get ready to go out and play in the snow the first two days. After that we realized it was too much trouble and way too cold.

15 months old

James had his 15 month checkup today. He weighs almost 28 pounds and is 32.75 inches. He is now in the 90th percentile and height and just over the 75th percentile in weight. He enjoyed going to the doctor today. He entertained everyone in the waiting room and then behaved really well in front of the doctor and the nurse. He didn’t mind anything except sitting still when it was just us in the room. His "company" manners are superb! He wasn’t able to get his shots today because he was wheezing and has an ear infection. He had been coughing the last week so we knew he might be wheezing but were hoping that he wasn't. Since he has had bronchiolitis so many times, he is now on a preventative called Flovent. He’ll take it in the morning and night every day for the next year or so. We hope he outgrows it eventually. Other than that, he checked out wonderful! He is growing up too fast and can do something new each day!

His vocabulary currently consists of: Mama, Dada, Ellie (YeahYa), dog, bye bye, hello, yes. He babbles a bunch of other things but they aren’t very clear yet. He loves looking at picture books and can point out lots of things. He has 8 teeth in all the way and 4 more cutting through. He is walking really well and can get up enough speed where I call it running. He definitely understands "No" and can get quite upset when he gets told that at certain times.

He also loves DOGS! Anything and everything about them. His favorite dog is Ellie (as it should be). He calls her name a hundred times a day. If he wakes up on the wrong side of the crib all we have to do is have Ellie appear and everything is suddenly better. The boy loves his dog. (previous post)

James also loves his grandparents! He gets so excited on Thursdays when he spends the day with Grammy and Poppy. He stands at the door with his coat on waiting on Matt to get him in the car to go. He also loves visiting Bebe and Pop in Macon. Bebe even came last week and spent the night so he got extra special time with her. Grammy Jeane is also very loved as well as Granddaddy. If you say their names he will give the cutest smile and run to the door.

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful little boy! He enjoys his school and his teachers and gets excited to go on Mondays and Fridays. He is starting to enjoy it when our neighbor's little boy Liam comes over for the day. He'll put his head on his feet and kiss them and then say, "Oooooh!" It is the sweetest thing.

James adores Ellie and Ellie puts up with and loves James. It is such a funny relationship as you can see from the picture below. There is nothing like using your dog as a pillow.

We headed up to Cashiers, NC with the Muldericks for a relaxing weekend to bring in the New Year. We went up Thursday and did a little shopping in Highlands before heading to Lindsay's Aunt and Uncle's home. When we got to the house we realized the driveway had several inches of snow. We couldn't get the cars down so we all got out and walked a really long and steep (in my opinion) driveway. The men had to then go back up and get our stuff so we could have food and drinks. It was really an adventure to say the least. The next day we were able to get the cars down and the snow started to melt.

On Friday, we watched the Clemson game and were very disappointed in the outcome. James wore his orange vest hoping for a Tigers win but we had no such luck. He changed into his new Georgia jersey from the Hunt's for the Georgia game and just knew that they would win. We were wrong again!

James' favorite book is Brown Bear and we read it at least 5 times a day. He now brings me books to read him and will sit for several minutes.

It was really warm out so James enjoyed walking through the snow without having to bundle up in tons of layers.

Christmas Season

We had the best Christmas ever! It was so special to share it with all of our friends and family. Seeing it through James' made it even more special. We started the season by decorating the house (inside and out). James enjoyed the decorations and listened very well on things that he could touch and things he couldn't touch. We have a whole different problem getting him to listen about not touching the dog bowl.

We went to Covington to visit Mema one Saturday and went to the Christmas parade there. James loved the highschool bands and everyone handing out all kinds of candy and cereal. He didn't get to have any but everyone around us gave us all their extras. It was quite a sight to see!

James was the first in the house to get a horrible stomach virus the next weekend. Amy came down with it Monday and Matt got a dose later that day. We were so lucky to have John and Linda close by to come rescue us that night. Needless to say it was awful and we somehow passed it along to many others.

Bebe came to visit later that week. (She ended up getting it too)

James had his school Christmas program on the last Friday of school. His class sang Jingle Bells. We practiced all week at home since he had to miss because of the stomach virus and he would dance around. When he got on stage with his classmates he was a little scared at first but then settled right in. It was hard to get a picture since every parent was doing the same thing. It was really cute!

The weekend before Christmas we went to Macon and had Christmas at Grammy Jeane's. It was a wonderful time with everyone. For some reason we don't have many photos from that day but we have lots of great memories.

The next week Beth came to town on Sunday and stayed with us until Tuesday. It was wonderful to spend time with her since she moved to Colorado. James loved every minute with her. She went with us to Lenox for James to visit with Santa Claus. He did great when he was on Santa's lap alone.

He did not like it when his friends joined him to sit on Santa's lap. He hadn't finished telling him all that he wanted for Christmas yet! James Mulderick and Tripp Patton were good sports anyway.

James always loves to eat and is the happiest boy!

We headed back down to Macon a couple of days before Christmas. We were able to visit some high school friends one night and then got ready for everyone to come over on Christmas Eve. John, Linda and Michael all came down that day. We had special guests this year- Danielle and Jayden. They came all the way from Austin, TX to spend Christmas with the Sery's.

James loves the singing animals at Bebe and Pop's. He wants them to be played over and over again while he dances.

We got a quick picture with Beth, Winn and Sally Pat before they headed back to Athens with Mema. We are going to really miss Beth and Winn when they are both in Colorado.

Christmas Eve was wonderful! We had a great lunch prepared by Bebe and Pop. All of the grandchildren opened up lots of presents and had a wonderful time. That night Matt stayed up putting together the Radio Flyer tricycle. He finished it in time for Santa Claus the next morning.

Luckily James didn't get up at 5 AM to see what Santa had left. Instead he slept until his normal 7 AM time. We went downstairs and saw what Santa had left.

After we opened gifts, we had a nice breakfast. We all had to head back to Atlanta a little earlier than planned since they were calling for a White Christmas that night. We wanted to make sure we were able to get home safe. Granddaddy had been staying at our house with Ellie the last few days. He was preparing Christmas Dinner for all of the Sery's headed that way.

Unfortunately, we don't have any pictures of Christmas Dinner but we managed to get one of Granddaddy opening his Christmas gifts.

Everyone left pretty quickly after dinner as the snow was really coming down. Uncle Mickey stayed with us the next few nights. We really enjoyed his company and we hope he comes back to visit soon.

Here is our little tiger! He was such a great sport wearing his costume. We are way behind on blogging and hope to get caught up sometime before 2011. James had a great first birthday with lots of friends and family here to celebrate. He loved having cake and we've decided his favorite thing is actually ice cream. It may have something to do with the half of a tub I ate each night when I was pregnant. (Lesson learned!)

We went to Highlands, NC to celebrate one of friend's birthday. We were there with 2 other couples and 2 other baby boys. James had a blast playing with all of the toys and exploring around a new house. Conner and Aiden were very nice to invite him for the weekend.

Yesterday Matt and I decided to sign James up for Parents Morning Out/Pre-School at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church. We got the last spot open that they had. James will go from 9-12 Mondays and Fridays. He has two teachers in his class and only 6 other children. They have lesson plans made out, art class, outdoor play and music time. James will be the youngest in his class and only one of two that hasn't started walking yet. I have a feeling he will be walking pretty soon once he sees all of his "friends" are walking.
I had parents orientation last night and today we had meet the teacher day. As soon as we got in the room, James wanted to get down and play with all of the other kids. He even took a toy from someone much bigger than him and crawled off with it. We're hoping he will learn to share among many other things. It will also give me some time to get more of my work done and find some new work as well!

Minnesota Trip!

We returned from our Memorial Day trip and repacked our bags and headed up to Minnesota. James was an angel on the flight up and back. We even had the flight crew comment on how well he did. When we arrived at the airport, Mary and Cathy were there to greet us with this cute sign and balloon. James loves balloons so he was thrilled!

We then headed over to Mary's house which became our home for the next 5 nights. We had our own suite and Tim and Carrie let us borrow their pack-n-play for James. Mary and Cathy had some toys for James to get started playing with immediately. He was scooting around but not crawling on all fours yet. He did pull up for the first time while we were there and we all got to see the momentous act.

The next day cousin Adam made us a wonderful brunch at his house.

We then went on a driving tour of Minneapolis. The weather was cool and rainy most of the day so we stayed in the car most of the time. Adam took us by some beautiful homes on a lake and then by some gardens. We ended up at Minnetonka Falls and were able to get out since the sun appeared.

That night Tim and Carrie had the whole family over for a cookout at their house. James got to play with Charlie, Grace and Sawyer. Uncle Mickey even flew in for 24 hours for a quick visit.

The next day we left to visit Montgomery. We were served a Minnesota lunch of tater tot hot dish served by Sandy. It was delicious!!! We waited on Poppy to get back from his fishing trip.

Memorial Day 2010

We went on our annual trip to Charleston for Memorial Day this year! We have been doing this trip for years with the Stechmessers' and the White's. James had a wonderful time seeing everyone. We went into Charleston one day and had a great lunch with the kids. Later that night James had his first babysitter other than a family member. Laurie took great care of James and Lilly. We had a cookout Saturday night with all of our friends in town for the evening. Sunday we went to the beach and had a great time. James was interested in the sand but wasn't a huge fan of the waves. We had a great time and can't wait to get back next year.

I have to admit that it has taken a little longer than a week to completely update the blog. The good thing is that I am on a mini vacation now where I have no excuse not to update everything. I know everyone says that time flies and now I am a believer!!!

We are way, way behind on blogging but I promise to get up to date within a week. We have been really busy and done some travelling and been working more and more. We also had to get a new laptop and all new software (another excuse). We have a lot of cute pictures to share from the last few months.

Today is James' nine month birthday! We had a wonderful checkup with the doctor this morning. He now weighs 21.4 pounds and is 29 inches tall. He's in the 75% percentile in height and 60% in weight. He is a wonderful baby and loves to be around people. He has been scooting on his belly since we were in Minnesota (early June) but now is up on all fours a good bit. He is also pulling up on everything. He can wave and sorta of say Hey and bye, bye. He loves to eat!!! He eats pears, bananas, apples, mangoes, peaches, nectarines, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, green peas, black eyed peas, black beans, sweet potatoes, spinach, carrots, acorn squash, butternut squash, yellow squash (lots of squash!) zucchini, and tomatoes. Since he is nine months old now, we can start on meats. He only has one tooth so he is still only eating baby food. He loves the little puffs where he can feed himself and he gets so excited when he sees us get the container out. James is taking the bottle/sippy cup much better and the pediatrician assured us today that he won't get dehydrated but he would drink when he needed it. I am feeling much better knowing that! James is such a happy baby and loves to show off to anyone that pays him attention. The last couple of weeks he has gotten a little clingy but I hear that is normal at this age. It is so cute to see him after we've left the room get to us as fast as he can!

What a blessing James has been in our lives! We never knew what a joy a child would bring to us.

ROAD TRIP!

We took our first extended road trip with James to Camilla, GA and then onto the beach in Panama City, Florida. Brenton and Marce had a wedding reception at her parents house and we had dinner and stayed at a lodge on the Flint River. It was a lot of fun! We left Sunday morning and headed down to a condo in Panama City for a couple of days. James did great in the car the whole trip. Matt's birthday was that Monday so we had a nice dinner out at Captain Andersons. We went to the beach and James put his feet in the sand and ocean very quickly. It was really windy and the water was closed to swimming. James really enjoyed the pool! We figured he would since he loves the bath so much. We can't wait to visit again soon.

Lots of people tell me that James always looks so happy so I thought I would post a photo where he isn't too happy. I had just taken his sunglasses away from him and he was not happy at all!

We are so fortunate that this face isn't one we see too often.

We traveled to Macon for Easter weekend and had a wonderful time with our family. James definitely enjoyed the weekend and loved his basket from the Easter Bunny. On Sunday we went to church with the Hunt's and loved seeing the children perform. It was definitely the icing on the cake for a great weekend.

James is now a month into eating solids and has tried bananas, apples, avocado (not a fan yet!), pears, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peaches, oatmeal and green peas. We will be trying zucchini, yellow squash, acorn squash, apricots and plums next. We're making all of his food and enjoying the process. The Stechmesser's let us borrow their book on what to start with and how to cook it so we are really enjoying each new time we start something new. James seems to roll with each new item we present and give it a good taste. He is such a sweet boy!

We went to church for the start of Lent at the Ash Wednesday service. James was very well behaved during the service and even got ashes on his forehead. James let everyone around us know he was there when he had some pretty loud gas! It was almost like he knew exactly when the moment of silence would be so he could liven things up.

Today we went to have James's four month photos taken. Matt came along so I wouldn't be pressured to buy all the extras that they try to get you to buy. I've taken him at 2 and 3 months and done pretty well but knew taking Matt would be helpful. Well... we ended up buying more photos than ever before but it is well worth it. James was super cute and loves the camera. We loved having Dad there too!

James' Baptism

James was baptized at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, January 10, 2009. His godparents are Beth Williams and Michael Sery. We had special guests, Mary Sery and Cathy Sery, come all the way from Minnesota for the special day. James wore the baptismal gown that has been in the Sery family for 100 years. Matt's grandfather first wore the gown July 3, 1910 in Minnesota. It has been worn by most everyone in their family including Matt's father John and Matt himself.

The church service started at 9:00 am and it was icy from a snow a few days earlier. The church was pretty chilly inside too. After the service, we had photos taken with Mother Mary and then a brunch reception at the church. We had a lunch afterwards at the house that went really well. James had a wonderful baptism day! Thank you all for being a part of his special day!

Twenty Ten SNOW!

We got about 4 inches of snow last night! Ellie loved it and James had no idea that it even happened. We took him outside for a minute to get a couple of photos. He was bundled up in a warm fleece suit from my cousin Betsy that she passed down. I am so glad I remembered she had given it to us since it fit perfect. Matt put the camera on the action setting and got Ellie running like a wild one.

James Four Months Old

James is such a sweet baby boy. Most of the time he is smiling at anyone and anything. He loves to make all kinds of sounds and kick his feet. The doctor told us that will soon be crawling then walking and then running. We have a very active little boy on our hands.

James weighs 16 pounds and 8 ounces. We go back in a couple of days for his official check up so I will get the height and head circumference then. He had his second illness with another case of bronchiolitis. He is having to take steroids and get breathing treatments again. On the positive side it is much better than last time!

James enjoys riding in the car, playing in the bouncy seat, sitting in his bumbo seat and playing with his floor gyms. He can roll over half way from his back. He enjoys tummy time for up to 15 minutes and can hold his head up really well. He associated the swing with nap time since that is one of the few places we can get him to sleep longer than 15 minutes. He can now sleep up to six hours at a time. Since he has been sick that has gotten thrown off but he has done it a few times.

It is amazing all of the new things that James can do each day. Below is a video of him in the bath tub. He loves the bath as you will see!

Merry Christmas!! James had a wonderful first Christmas with more gifts than we ever expected. James and I went to Macon on December 22nd to celebrate the season. Matt and his parents and Uncle Mickey arrived on the 23rd. On Christmas Eve, 19 of us had lunch at BeBe and Papa's house. Later that night, James got a fever and ended up getting a serious case of RSV and bronchiolotis. We ended up in the pediatric after hours care on Saturday and he's been at the doctor again Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. We are really blessed that he is feeling much better now. It was quite a scare for a few days when his breathing and oxygen levels were really off. We have finished his steriod treatment but continuing his antibiotic and breathing treatment for the next week when we go back again for his follow up. We also went to my Dad and Jeane's for Christmas dinner and enjoyed seeing everyone there as well.

Other than the unexpected illness, we had a great time seeing family and friends!

They Do Love Me! By: Ellie Sery

It has taken me turning two years old this week to understand this new baby thing that my parents brought home six weeks ago. If you have a minute you can read my story...

You see it started November 22, 2007. That's when I was born in Canton, GA to Chancy and Gandolf Van Dalen. My birth mom really loved me but they kept my Dad in another crate so I never knew a real dad until January 10, 2008. You see my new parents got me early like they did my brother James. I think my mom can be impatient but never tell her that!!! I think having the new baby has made her be more patient for sure.

If you have read this blog for long you will see that I was the subject of everything on here. My adopted Mom and Dad treated me like a real baby. For my first birthday, we had 8 of my dog friends over for a dog biscuit cake. We had a great time.

Around April of 2009, I started to notice my mom gaining some weight and being a little hormonal. Again lets keep that "quiet". One time a lady came in our front yard and I scared her away with my bark. That's something I never do and only reserve it for special situations. I could just tell at the time that my mom needed a little extra protection. Little did I know at the time why???

As the summer progressed she kept getting bigger and bigger and this belly kept growing and growing. She would come home every Monday and Wednesday smelling of super strong chlorine from the pool at the Y. That's where she worked out and had a great time with her new friends in her water aerobics class.

On October 12, 2009 my Granddaddy Chase came to visit and my parents and I had a photo taken on the front porch. They had suitcases packed but I had no idea what was in store for me. For the next 6 days my mom never appeared. I stayed home and my Granddaddy kept me the first 3 nights. Then my Aunt Beth kept me for a night or two then my Grandaddy was back again. Next thing I knew it was Sunday afternoon and everyone was acting real strange and I had to leave the house. I came back and my mom was there with this new thing that I will call a "baby"! By golly I was confused. My mom used to run around the house with me but she seemed sore and so tired. Then this "baby" cried all the time. I mean all day and night. My sleep schedule was totally disrupted and no one even paid me any attention. I heard them say all the time, "Poor Ellie."

So here we are Thanksgiving Day 2009. It has been 45 days since my mom and dad took that trip with those suitcases and left me in good hands for 6 nights! I will have to say that my life has changed so much. It has changed so much for the better! I now have a little brother that keeps me up all night and cries during the day but I really love him. He's just the sweetest thing in the world and I can't wait for him to get bigger so I can really play with him. I look forward to the day for him to throw me the ball and pull my tail! Sometimes I sit under his swing or bouncy seat and other times I just keep a watchful eye out for him when he sleeping. I am so happy and thankful that he is here!

To make things even better my parents even remembered my second birthday. My cousin, Stella, came by and we had doggie donuts with doggie icing to celebrate. By the way, it was so much better than the cake from last year. It was a much bigger portion and I need it considering I gained 8 pounds during my mom's pregnancy. We are both working on it so keep that quiet too.

I have posted a couple of photos of me and Stella at my birthday party. The photo at the top is me watching my new best friend James sleep in his basket. I hope you all love him as much as I do.

One Month Old!!!

James had his one month check up Tuesday, November 17th. He already weighs 10 lbs. 11 oz. which is in the 75th percentile. His has grown to 22 inches which is also 75th percentile. His head circumference is also in the 75th percentile. So it looks like we have a well proportioned son that will be on the larger side. The doctor said he checks out perfect!

James eats about every two hours so it is no surprise that he's almost gained four pounds in his first month. He has even taken a couple of bottles from his Daddy now. He really exercises his lungs when he is hungry. When he is ready to eat, we have only a couple of minutes before he erupts! Today when we were checking out at the store, he got hungry and we had to hurry home. Thank goodness we were only five minutes from the house but I got quite a few looks from the people in the check out line since he was screaming so loud.

He is a great baby and we love him so much. He is starting to smile and has even slept 4 hours one night. We're trying to do that again sometime soon. He can sleep 3 hours at night at a time consistently.

James loves to be held and his bouncy seat. He sleeps in a Moses basket by the bed so Amy can get to him easily at night to feed him. He enjoys an occasional swing every once in a while. James is a big fan of the car seat and will just sit and look around and eventually fall asleep. He's been to and from Macon two times and has not made a sound either time. He has also been to the grocery store, Amy's doctor appointment, a church meeting and a few restaurants and done really well.

We recently watched the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and are having some success with the techniques they teach you on consoling a crying baby. James has a tough time right before we put him to bed each night from 9-11 or when he gets to sleep. He hasn't put us through any horror times where we can't eventually calm him so far. (Two hours is the max he's been fussy at a time.) No late night car rides or running the vacuum all night for us so far! He has definitely changed Ellie's sleep schedule but she's adjusting like we are.

We've been really blessed with Sweet Baby James! Come meet him if you haven't had a chance yet. We can't wait for him to meet his Uncle Mickey next week for Thanksgiving. Then we have to get him to meet his Minnesota family soon.

Week 4

We decided to take Ellie to the dog park so she could get some exercise and James could go for a stroll. Ellie decided to get extremely dirty in the mud! Matt had Ellie in the dog park area and when we met up to leave I was laughing when they turned the corner and I saw her. We guess she deserved a day in the mud with other dogs since she has been so sweet since James came to live with us. Hopefully next time we all go somewhere she can stay a little cleaner!
